i've lived with a couple of glamourous synaesthetes, full of life and intelligence, once upon a time ... but i'd only experienced something like synaesthesia with the help of hallucinogens ... in time i came to envy their closer contact with the natural world, and the extra depth and dimensions of their emotional lives
